Hi Everyone,

I received some information about sunscreens, provided by Dr. Pachman's consultant dermatologist and was told it would be ok to post this on the discussion board.

The dermatologist examined the information in the link provided below under the "Sunscreens - Again" subject title and responded that he believes there is some truth in this information. He avoids chemical sunscreens and the one he recommends is COTZ-- contains only titanium and zinc-- or Blue Lizard for Babies (also chemical-free).

And he likes sun protective clothing, particularly NoZone which is Canadian.

And he added that he doesn't think this is a major concern in the end, but probably not the best thing for folks who are using sunscreen daily.

I haven't checked the above listed products on the hazard scale to see where they fit in, but it is good to know what he likes and why.

Amanda relies heavily upon sun protective clothing and other appropriate clothing, as well as hats and sunglasses. She is sensitive to some sunscreens and prefers to avoid the sun and supplement/substitute with other methods of protection. Now that we know about the concerns of the chemicals I am glad she is doing this. However, for the younger kids you can't always be with them and they may not keep their hats on, etc., so there is no alternative to using sunscreen of some kind.
