Recap of Cure JM Conference and Fundraiser
Cure JM is proud to say we raised over $163,500 through our collective fundraising efforts. In addition, the Carlsbad Marathon donated over $1,500 to recognize our efforts, including our volunteer team winning 2nd place for the Most Spirited Water Station award. Many thanks to Tom Hume, our Water Station captain, and all of his hard-working volunteers working many hours handing out water, keeping the area clean and directing the runners. Cure JM TOTALLY ROCKED!
(Thanks also to the "Diggin' the Graves" band's performance!)
Many thanks to our esteemed panel of JM specialists who took time over the weekend to be with us. Dr. Lauren Pachman, Dr.
Lisa Rider and Dr. Gulnara Mamyrova shared research updates and spent part of an afternoon in a Question and Answer session with our Juvenile Myositis families. Click here to view the doctor presentations.
A big thank you also to Suzanne Edison, a JM mother from the Seattle area, for leading a discussion on ways to deal with the stress of having a chronically ill child and shared some helpful resources. Click here to view the workshop notes.

Feel free to share with others as we continue to create awareness and raise much needed funds for the Cure JM Foundation. A very big thanks goes out to 16 year-old, Erin George, and Kevin McKeever for their time and talent to put this together.
As a thank you gift for our JM specialists / speakers, the Cure JM Foundation presented a commemorative 5th Anniversary photo book. Since the book captures Cure JM Foundation's key milestones and accomplishments over the past five years, several JM families have asked for details to purchase a book. Please click here and follow the directions below for a preview of the book and purchase details from MyPublisher.com. Feel free to order a book for yourself, a family member, friend or anyone you think would appreciate it. Cure JM does not receive any proceeds from the purchase of the books. As many of you know, Mason Smedley, who is from
Hillsboro, OR, has a severe case of Juvenile Myositis with many complications. Mason and his entire family had traveled to San Diego for a family vacation and to attend the Cure JM event. Mason was also named one of the Carlsbad Marathon Heroes, and he was looking forward to receiving his award. Unfortunately, just days before the Cure JM / Carlsbad events, he was hospitalized in San Diego. He was in the ICU in San Diego since Jan 20th, and just this past week, he was able to get a medical flight to be closer to home. Mason is now in the Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. To the entire Smedley family, our best wishes for Mason's recovery. Mason, you and your family are a great inspiration for all of us to continue to fight for greater awareness and research for JM. Keep fighting the great fight!
While Mason's Dad, Damon, was in San Diego he met a very impressive young singer named Jessica Lerner. After hearing about Mason in the hospital, Jessica made a special visit to San Diego Children's hospital and played a special song, Miracle, for Mason. Then, this weekend, Jessica dedicated her performance and proceeds from sales of her CD to Cure JM Foundation. If you want to see Jessica wearing her Cure JM shirt during her Saturday performance and hear her songs dedicated to Mason and Cure JM ...go to www.YouTube.com and search for "Jessica Lerner sings for Mason Smedley and Cure JM".
Jessica has even offered to perform a benefit concert for Cure JM in Portland!! Thank you Jessica!
Please consider holding a fundraiser to benefit Cure JM. If you are interested, please contact Shari Hume at . Thank you once again for making our event a huge success!!
