Welcome to the Cure JM
Family Support Network
If you have clicked on this link, chances are
you are affected in some way, directly or indirectly, by Juvenile Myositis.
My daughter, Abby, was diagnosed with Juvenile
Dermatomyositis (JDM) back in October of 1999. Words cannot describe the
devastation that my husband and I felt upon hearing the words “juvenile
dermatomyositis”. It took me a few weeks before I even knew how to spell
it!
As I look back on those first few months of diagnosis,
I remember the sheer chaos and uncertainty that surrounded my life. There
was so much information to decipher, so many emotions to work through and so
many sleepless nights filled with feelings of disbelief, worry and even
guilt!
I began to seek out others who were having or had had
the same experience. I was able to find a few people and a few resources by
spending hours searching on the internet. It was a very frustrating process
trying to find others! Once I found them, however, they became my greatest
source of support and sanity!!! Today, I am blessed to call these people
‘friend’ and yes, even ‘family’.
Finding others to share this JDM experience with has
been so beneficial to my overall well being. It has lifted many of my
burdens.
It can lift your burdens, too. I am thankful that
today, Cure JM exists as a family-led JM organization whose mission is to
find a cure for Juvenile Myositis and provide support for JM sufferers and
their families. As a part of that mission, Cure JM has made a commitment to
provide support to JM families by starting the Family Support Network. None
of us need look far for help, anymore.
The Family Support Network was created for you and your
family. It is my hope that you, your child and your family find information
here to help you on this unexpected journey; find a shoulder to cry on when
you need it; find encouragement to enable you to thrive despite this
disease.
